Bird monitoring programme for STEG
Tunisia - 2021
Commissioned by: EBRD European Bank for Reconstruction and Development
Strix developed a Bird Management Plan in consultation with STEG (Société Tunisienne de l’Electricité et du Gaz) for the Tunisian network of transmission lines. This plan defined procedures to be implemented regarding bird protection for transmission lines in construction and operation, complying with international good practice, Tunisian regulations and the international conventions ratified by this country.
This project started with a critical review of STEG’s current practices considering Tunisian legislation and international guidelines and best practices recommendations followed by an assessment of current impacts and applicable mitigation measures. The plan proposed design specifications, adequate mitigation measures, guidelines for the decision-making process, allocation of roles and responsibilities, identification of data and documentation to collect and store and key performance indicators.
The guidelines document produced as one of the project outcomes was one of the first for bird management to be produced for an African country
